Lauren Southern, an anti-Islam activist, has been permanently banned from the UK by the Home Office after distributing Islamophobic leaflets in Luton.
The lifetime ban was given after she handed out posters with titles such as “Allah is g*y” and “Allah is tr*ns” in a social experiment, outraging Muslim passers-by.
The police asked Southern, 22, to stop distributing the material because it would disturb public order and cause violence. She wasn’t arrested during the incident in February, but was detained at the border in Calais when she tried to re-enter the UK on March 13.
Southern was attempting to join up with other key figures of the anti-Muslim movement, such as Tommy Robinson, when she was detained.
She first came to attention with her involvement in the failed “Defend Europe” project, in which she tried to interrupt the efforts of rescue teams who were saving drowning refugees in the Meditteranean.
Southern defended her actions as “free speech.” She said: “I don’t recall a backlash when an article claiming Jesus Christ was gay was posted” and “Why is it racist to say Allah is gay but not racist to say Jesus is gay?”
A Home Office Spokesperson said: “Border Force has the power to refuse entry to an individual if it is considered that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good.”
