Three additional people have been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack on a mosque in Peacehaven, as counter-terrorism officers continue to lead the investigation.

The arrests mark a further development in a case that has already seen multiple suspects detained and charged over the incident.

Police confirmed that three more individuals were taken into custody as part of continuing inquiries into the October 2025 fire at the Peacehaven Community Centre & Mosque in East Sussex.

The investigation has involved a series of arrests since the attack, with suspects being questioned and released on bail while inquiries progressed.

Earlier in the investigation, multiple men were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

One arrest involved a 69-year-old man who was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

The fire itself caused significant damage to the mosque’s entrance and a vehicle parked outside, although no injuries were reported.

CCTV footage reportedly showed masked individuals using a flammable substance before igniting the fire.

Counter-terrorism lead and lines of inquiry

Following the emergence of new evidence during the early stages of the investigation, counter-terrorism police took over the case.

Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East are now leading efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify any wider links.

Investigators have stated that the decision to escalate the case was made after reviewing information gathered during initial inquiries.

The specialist unit continues to work alongside local police forces to progress the investigation at pace.

At this stage, authorities have not publicly confirmed a definitive motive, and enquiries remain ongoing.

Police have continued to appeal for information from the public to assist with the case.

Legal proceedings

The incident has already progressed through the courts, with two individuals charged with arson with intent to endanger life. They are due to face trial following remand in custody.

The case has involved extensive forensic work, witness statements and house-to-house inquiries as part of efforts to establish a full account of what happened.

While the investigation continues, authorities have maintained a visible policing presence in the area to reassure the local community and support those affected.

Additional patrols around places of worship have also been deployed in response to the incident.

The Peacehaven mosque arson remains an active and developing case, with further arrests suggesting that police are continuing to build a wider picture of those potentially involved and their roles in the attack.
