A 15-year-old Muslim boy has tragically lost his life after being stabbed during a street disturbance in Moss Side, Manchester, on Monday afternoon.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to Moss Lane East shortly after 4.30pm, following reports of a serious incident involving several young people.
Emergency services found the victim with multiple stab wounds. He was treated at the scene and transported to hospital, but despite best efforts, he was sadly pronounced dead.
The boy has now been named as Mohanad Abdullaahi Goobe, described by his grieving family as a much-loved son, brother and friend whose life ended far too soon.
In a tribute issued through Greater Manchester Police, his parents said Mohanad was quick to laugh, easy to love and had a ready smile.
They described him as the “baby of the family,” loyal to his friends, and often the class clown who enjoyed making people laugh.

His family said: “Mohanad’s life has been cut tragically short. It is difficult to comprehend that saying goodbye for school was the last time we saw him.”

They added: “Mohanad deserves to be remembered for the young man he was, loved by his family and loved big in return, not as another statistic.”
The statement continued: “We will not allow his name to be lost in the rise of knife crime. Remember Mohanad with love in your heart.”
A murder investigation was launched immediately, and a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody as enquiries continue.
Detectives confirmed they are aware of a video circulating on social media showing schoolchildren involved in a large fight, and have urged people not to share it.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We know how shocking this has been for the whole community. We are working tirelessly.”
He added: “We have a teenager in custody, but are exploring multiple lines of enquiry. We ask anyone with information or footage to come forward.”
Chief Superintendent David Meeney described the killing as “an appalling act” and said officers would remain visible in Moss Side as investigations progress over the coming days.

He said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends after this tragic incident. Specially trained officers will continue supporting them through this difficult time.”
A Section 60 order, giving police additional stop-and-search powers, was authorised until Tuesday evening.
Roads remained closed, causing disruption for families, students, and worshippers in the busy neighbourhood.
Forensic officers in white suits were seen searching bushes and pavements, while a blue forensic tent was placed near Moss Side Health Centre on Monton Street.
Residents described their sadness and fear. One woman, who has lived locally for 16 years, said she worried for children growing up around violence on their doorsteps.
Prayers were recited at the scene by local community members and health workers, reflecting the grief felt in the neighbourhood after Mohanad’s devastating loss.
Police continue to appeal for information, including dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage, urging witnesses to come forward directly or via anonymous reporting channels.
