An Islamic girls’ school in Blackburn has once again significantly outperformed the national average in its A Level results, with 82% of students securing at least three A*-B grades.

Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College (TIGHS) recorded another outstanding set of results, with 92% of students achieving at least three A Levels at grades A*-C.

Almost half — 45% — of all A Level entries at the school were awarded A*-A grades, while 15% achieved the highest possible A* grade.

The results continue a remarkable record of academic achievement at TIGHS, which was named Comprehensive School of the Year in the North West for 2026.

The school said its latest results were “well above” national averages and reflected “the strength of teaching, support and aspiration within the Sixth Form.”

Students taking vocational qualifications also performed strongly, with 93% achieving a National Extended Diploma at Distinction level or above and 46% securing the highest possible DDD* grades.

Among this year’s highest-achieving students was Khadijah Patel, who secured an A* in Sociology alongside As in Chemistry and Biology. She will now go on to study Biochemistry at university.

Speaking on results day, Patel said: “Staff at Tauheedul make each student feel unique. Studying my A Levels here made me feel like part of something greater.

“We are taught to aim high not just for our sake but in order to serve our communities. I am grateful for the opportunities I had at Tauheedul to serve the school and hope to continue to make the school and my family proud.”

Fellow student Aaliyah Amir achieved A*AA in Chemistry, Biology and Sociology and secured a place on a highly competitive apprenticeship with KPMG.

Amir said: “Securing an apprenticeship wasn’t easy and there were times when it felt quite uncertain, but the support I received from the Sixth Form made a real difference.

“Teachers were proactive in helping us explore different pathways and prepare for the application process. I’m looking forward to continuing my learning while gaining valuable experience in a professional environment.”

TIGHS Head of Sixth Form Rasheda Khatun praised what she described as a “remarkable group of young women.”

She said: “Each student has their own story of effort, challenge and perseverance, and today is a celebration of all that they have overcome to reach this point.

“We congratulate every student on their achievements, thank our staff for their incredible efforts, and feel blessed to have such wonderfully supportive parents and carers.”

National recognition

The latest A Level results follow TIGHS being named Comprehensive School of the Year in the North West for 2026.

Both TIGHS and its brother school, Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School (TIBHS), also secured places among the UK’s highest-performing schools in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide.

The rankings assess schools according to their performance in A Level and GCSE examinations.

TIBHS was also ranked the fifth-best comprehensive secondary school in the North West for 2026 and 198th nationally.

The Blackburn schools are part of Star Academies, a multi-academy trust which operates a number of Muslim faith schools as well as non-faith schools across England.

Attention will now turn to GCSE results, which are due to be released later this week, with TIBHS expected to once again perform strongly.
