On Monday thousands of people participated in the janazah of Adam Khan, the 26-year-old Muslim who was murdered in Luton last week. 5Pillars takes a look at the life of this “strong young man” who has been described as a pillar to his family and having “an unwavering commitment to Islam.”
Born in Pakistan before moving to Luton at the age of two, Adam grew up in a loving home in a traditional British-Pakistani household.
However, he was tested with major hardship at the age of 13 when his father died tragically of heart disease.
Adam was left as the oldest male in the household with the responsibility of caring for his mother and younger siblings.
Despite this difficult period in his early teens, he went on to establish himself as a well-respected young man in his community and dedicated his life to Islam and the pursuit of aiding those less fortunate across the Ummah.

After graduating with first class degree honours from the University of Hertfordshire, he went on to volunteer for the Islamic charity Crisis Aid where he helped to prepare and distribute aid to troubled areas such as Yemen, Syria and Somalia.
Speaking to 5Pillars, Mumzy Shah, a family friend of Adam’s, explained how dedicated Adam was to his aid work even from his youth.

“He got into aid work as a very young child in the masjid. When the Syrian civil war kicked off he was packing food parcels and clothes and he always had a desire to help from a very young age.
“He always had that yearning to help others. He was always helping during Ramadhan. Iftar, suhoor, laying out food, helping clean up, he just always had that fitrah, from a very young age.”
Shah expressed his great sadness at the loss of Adam at a time when he was considering marriage and had recently returned from umrah.
Popular and charismatic, Adam boasted a large range of friends and was passionate about his health and fitness, taking part in group bike trails, public Eid celebrations, river rafting and other wholesome activities.

Following the upsetting news of death, Crisis Aid, set up a fundraiser to build a mosque in his honour. At the time of writing, donations have exceeded £38,500.
The fundraiser states: “The first thing that comes to mind when remembering Adam is his unwavering commitment to Islam. Handsome, strong, and resilient, he was loved by everyone who knew him and left a smile on every face he met. His energy was infectious, his respect for elders remarkable, and his kindness towards the young a reflection of his generous heart.
“At the centre of Adam’s life was Islam and the Sunnah. His faith was not simply a part of him — it was the very foundation of his being. It shaped his character, guided his actions, and gave him the unshakable sense of purpose we all admired.
“Adam’s journey was one of courage and responsibility. After losing his father at a young age, he stepped forward to care for his family with maturity beyond his years. Alongside this responsibility, he worked tirelessly to continue his education, fuelled by a relentless determination to create a better future for his loved ones. His strength and perseverance were an inspiration to us all.
Message from the family
Below is a full statement from the family of Adam Khan following the janazah expressing their thanks to the outpouring of support and prayers from the community.
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
“Dear respected brothers and sisters,
“On behalf of the family of our beloved Adam Khan (رحمه الله), we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to every single person who attended his Janazah prayer and burial today, as well as to those who supported us during the build-up to these moments.
“The sheer number of people who came to pray his Janazah is a testimony to the life Adam lived, his good character and the impact he left upon those around him. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘If four people testify to the goodness of a Muslim, Allah will admit him to Paradise.’ [Muslim] and today, countless hearts bore witness to Adam’s sincerity, kindness and his commitment to Islam and the Sunnah.

“Alhamdulillāh, the janazah and burial proceeded smoothly with ease, in beautiful weather, another sign of Allah’s mercy upon His servant. From the moments leading up to the janazah, throughout the prayer and at the burial site, we heard nothing but words of love, respect and admiration for Adam, remembering him for his good character, his manners and his steadfastness in practising his deen. These are signs of a good ending and we pray Allah accepts them as glad tidings for him.”
“We are also humbled by the generosity of the community. In just a short span of time, over £35,000+ has already been raised towards Masjid Adam, a house of Allah that will serve as an ongoing charity (Ṣadaqah Jariyah) in Adam’s name. The speed and willingness with which people donated is another sign of the love that people had for him and of the goodness Allah places in a believer’s legacy. The donations continue to grow, alhamdulillāh.
“The Qur’an reminds us: ‘Indeed, the friends of Allah, there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. They are those who believed and were conscious of Allah’ (Qur’an 10:62-63).
“We ask Allah to forgive Adam, to grant him light in his grave, to raise his ranks and to reunite us all with him in Jannat al-Firdous. May Allah reward every one of you who prayed for him, attended his janazah, stood with the family, spoke good of him, or donated in his name.
“From the depths of our hearts, thank you. Your presence, your prayers, and your kindness have been a source of comfort and strength to the family during this difficult time.
“Please continue to remember Adam in your du‘ās and may Allah grant us all a good ending upon His obedience.”
والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
