A YouGov poll has revealed that 57% of the British public would support a burqa ban.
The poll result comes a few weeks after Muslim women’s dress code once again entered the spotlight because of decisions to ban burkinis in France.
Last week a Muslim woman was forced by four armed officers to remove the burkini on a beach in Nice.
The poll carried out by YouGov showed that just 25% of those surveyed would oppose a ban on the burqa.
The poll also shows that the 65 plus age group is most likely to back a burqa ban in the UK whilst 78% of them were in support, compared to 34% of 18 to 24-year-olds.
Working class people are also most likely to support the ban than middle class by 61% to 54%.
The ratio of gender support was a lot closer with women being 56% in favour compared to 58% of males.

When broken down by support for political parties, (according to 2015 support) the percentages in favour of bans were as follows: 84% Ukip; 66% Conservative and 48% Labour.
YouGov surveyed 1,668 British adults.
