Police have arrested a man and charged him in relation to the horrific hit-and-run incident targeting a Muslim woman in South East London in March.

The Met have confirmed the identity of the alleged driver as Brennan Mongan, 31, who was arrested in Scotland on March 25 in connection with the incident and charged.

He was remanded in custody and appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on March 28. He is now due to appear at Woolwich Crown Court next Thursday.

In a statement shared with 5Pillars via the social media platform X, the Met said: “A man has been arrested in connection with this incident and, following our investigation, he has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, criminal damage to a motor vehicle, and other driving offences. He will appear at Woolwich Crown Court next week.”

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 18:36 on Sunday, March 8, following a report that a woman had been hit by a car and that the driver had failed to stop on Harrow Manorway, Abbey Wood.

A manhunt was launched for the driver, with footage showing a car ploughing into a visibly Muslim woman at speed before driving off in what was feared to be a targeted attack.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was sent “flying” across the street and over the car bonnet. Following the hit-and-run, the victim was rushed to hospital, where her condition was not deemed to be life-threatening or life-changing. She has since been discharged and continues to be supported by police.
