Man arrested following stabbing near primary school in Birmingham

Police have arrested a 32-year-old man after a man was stabbed and a women injured in an attack near a primary school in Alum Rock, Birmingham.

West Midlands Ambulance Service and firearm officers responded to a report of a stabbing on Bridge Street, Alum Rock, after receiving multiple 999 calls at 12:07pm today.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a man with serious injuries and administered advanced life support on scene. A second patient, a woman, was treated for less serious injuries.”

West Midlands Police claimed that the incident was “contained” and quickly controlled as officers worked on reviewing CCTV footage in the area.

“We understand how deeply distressing and concerning this incident is and we will have extra officers in the area to offer reassurance to the community,” Det Supt James Munro said.

The primary school next to the site of the stabbing incident had been put on “lockdown” according to a local mother of a child from the school.

Text messages were sent to parents of children from the school which informed them that the school would be closing early, advising parents that students should be collected at 2:20pm.

“Due to an incident on Bridge Road, we have been advised to dismiss early,” the message said.

A nearby nursery, close to the site of the attack, was also put on lockdown.

West Midlands Policed announced the arrest of the man: “We’ve arrested a man after another man was stabbed in Alum Rock this afternoon (Tues).”

“Firearms officers were deployed to the incident as part of our response. A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing and is currently in police custody.”

“We understand how deeply distressing and concerning this incident is and we will have extra officers in the area to offer reassurance to the community.”

The police also added that a public portal was set up for anyone who may have footage, from a mobile phone or a dashcam of the incident.
