Four Muslims, including three teenagers, were killed in a road incident in Bolton in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Bolton Council of mosques said the driver of a Seat Leon and two passengers, all believed to be aged between 18 and 19, were Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, Farhan Patel and Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali.

Mosrab Ali, aged in his 50s, was also named locally and is believed to have been the driver of a taxi involved in the head on collision.

At around 12:45am on Sunday, officers attended Wigan Road in Bolton after a red Seat Leon, travelling along the road, collided with a Citroen C4 Picasso.

The driver of the Seat Leon and two passengers died as a result of the collision. The driver of the Citroen C4 Picasso was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Five injured passengers were taken to hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

A scene remains in place at this time while officers continue their investigation.

Bolton Council of Mosques (BCoM) said it is closely supporting the affected families and liaising with the relevant authorities.

“The authorities are dealing with all necessary matters professionally, efficiently, and with empathy. Details regarding the burial arrangements will be announced as soon as possible. Please make dua for the deceased and their families, and kindly respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Councillor Ayyub Patel of Bolton Council told Sky News that the “incredibly tragic incident” had left the entire community “devastated.” He offered his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones affected.

Chief Inspector Helen McCormick said the crash was a tragic reminder of the importance of road safety across Greater Manchester and in Bolton.

While serious and fatal collisions in the area have been significantly reduced and proactive policing increased, she said there is still more work to be done. One incident, she said, is one too many and cannot bring back the four lives lost.

She concluded by saying her thoughts were with everyone affected by the crash.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing for information and witnesses following the fatal collision.

The SCIU is urging anyone with information to come forward. This includes anyone who saw the vehicles prior to the collision, witnessed the incident itself, or has dashcam or CCTV footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SCIU directly on 0161 856 4741, quoting log 111 of 11/01/2025. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
