A second high-profile Muslim MP, Iqbal Mohamed, has quit Your Party amid accusations of factionalism and smears.
The independent MP for Dewsbury & Batley announced the decision on X on Friday, claiming “false allegations and smears” against him pushed him to finally walk.
“Over the past few months at the invitation of organisers, I have helped steward the launch of Your Party alongside Parliamentary colleagues Adnan Hussain (who voluntarily left Your Party on 14 Nov 2025), Ayoub Khan, Jeremy Corbyn, Shockat Adam and Zarah Sultana (who voluntarily left the Independent Alliance and the Your Party stewarding group on 18 Sept 2025).
“After careful consideration, I have decided to leave Your Party and continue serving as I was elected as an Independent Member of Parliament for Dewsbury & Batley.
“The many false allegations and smears made against me and others, and reported as fact without evidence, have been surprising and disappointing. However, I am confident that my colleagues and I have acted professionally, patiently, and in good faith throughout.

“I thank everyone who has dedicated time, energy, and commitment to building and supporting Your Party, and wish them success in their future endeavours. British politics needs a genuine, inclusive force for positive change, and I hope Your Party fulfils that role.”
Mohamed clarified that he will continue to work with his colleagues in the Independent Alliance parliament group, which includes Your Party co-founder Jeremy Corbyn, going forward.

“I will continue working with my colleagues in the Independent Alliance, which has proven highly effective in advocating for the common good in Parliament over the past eighteen months. I am grateful for the sincerity, unity and trust that has defined our work, and look forward to continuing our shared commitment to peace, justice, equality, and truth.”
Iqbal Mohamed ditched the Your Party just days after Adnan Hussain, the independent MP for Blackburn, also quit, bemoaning a “toxic” environment, factionalism, and “veiled prejudice” against Muslim men.
Hussain had been involved in a war of words with co-founder Zarah Sultana ahead of his departure over her hostility to socially conservative members and his criticism of transgender men entering into female safe spaces.
Sultana heads a faction within the Your Party which is woke, pro-LGBT and believes socially conservative people shouldn’t be associated with the party.
The row has led to many Muslim onlookers reaching the conclusion that the party has become increasingly hostile towards practising religious Muslims, a belief strongly reinforced with the sudden departure of Hussain and Mohamed.
At this stage it remains unclear whether the other independent Muslim MPs associated to the Independence Alliance, Ayoub Khan and Shockat Adam, will also quit the Your Party. They have remained silent on the resignations to date.
Chaos ahead of party conference
The divisions in the party run deeper than a mere Muslim-LGBTQ split.
The two main factions headed by the co-founders, Sultana and Corbyn, appear in a state of conflict as endless negative reports and rumours flood newspaper headlines detailing a bitter split.
Corbyn announced an eve of conference that a rally would take place in Liverpool from 7-8.30pm on Friday evening next week, the night before the new Your Party’s conference kicks off in the city.

The conference will finally, after months of delay, provide the membership with the chance to vote on key decisions related to the party including what the actual name will be going forward and who the leadership will be.
It is believed that the post as party leader will be bitterly fought over by Corbyn and Sultana who are both vying for control over the party.
A number of other scandals have plagued the party since it was announced earlier this year. Financial, legal, and membership data rows have all been widely reported on.
