Medical and humanitarian organisations in Gaza have issued urgent warnings, confirming that 91% of the population is now facing acute food insecurity. According to field data and recent international reports, the besieged enclave has effectively entered a state of famine.
Dr Munir Al-Bursh, Director-General of Gaza’s Ministry of Health, said the situation has deteriorated to unprecedented levels, with a complete blockade in place and humanitarian aid denied entry for over two months.
“Gaza is living through a humanitarian disaster shaped by hunger, poverty and disease, the result of ongoing genocide and Israel’s suffocating siege,” Al-Bursh stated.
“About 91% of residents are suffering from a severe food crisis, while 92% of children and breastfeeding mothers face acute malnutrition that threatens their lives and development.”
The Higher Council for Tribal Affairs in Gaza also issued a stark warning, stating:“We are entering a critical stage of mass starvation that threatens the lives of hundreds of thousands. We fear a moment may come when we are forced to shroud our children who are dying of hunger.”
The council called for immediate international action to open safe corridors for food and medicine “before it is too late.”
Israel continues to keep all border crossings closed, halting the entry of vital food and medical supplies. Subsidised bakeries have ceased operations entirely.

UN agencies report a sharp rise in food prices, widespread shortages of essential goods, and a lack of safe drinking water for 65% of Gaza’s population.
The crisis of displacement is also deepening. Most of Gaza’s residents are now living in overcrowded shelters or exposed in the open, without proper housing or access to healthcare.
Reports warn of a rapid spread of infectious diseases, particularly among children, amidst the collapse of the healthcare system and the destruction of water and sanitation infrastructure.
International relief agencies, including the World Food Programme and the World Health Organization, have warned that Gaza is on the brink of a full-scale famine.
They have urged the international community to intervene immediately, end the use of starvation as a weapon against civilians, and ensure the immediate, unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid.
