Estranged husband charged with murder of Yasmin Begum in Bethnal Green

Detectives investigating the death of Yasmin Begum, 40, in Bethnal Green have charged her estranged husband with murder.

Quyum Miah, 40, of Homerton, was also charged with burglary and two counts of fraud by false representation.

He appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday March 28.

Police were called to Globe Road, E2 at 4.06pm on Thursday March 24 after school staff raised the alarm when Yasmin did not arrive to pick up her children.

Officers attended the address along with London Ambulance Service and found Yasmin with stab injuries. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A special post-mortem was carried out on Saturday March 26 and the cause of death was established as multiple sharp force injuries.

The couple had been separated for around one year.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command continue to lead the investigation.

A plea hearing has been set for June 15.
