DEBATE: Dilly Hussain vs Roshan Salih on Hagia Sophia restored as mosque

5Pillars editors Roshan Muhammed Salih and Dilly Hussain debate whether the restoration of Hagia Sophia as a mosque is Islamically justified.

POSITIONS:

Editor-in-chief Roshan is of the opinion that Hagia Sophia should not have been converted into a mosque by Sultan Mehmed II in 1453, as well as it being restored back to a mosque by President Erdogan’s government.

Deputy editor Dilly is of the opinion that it was Islamically justified and politically correct to convert Hagia Sophia into a mosque in 1453 and for it to be restored back to a mosque by Turkey in 2020.
