The body of a missing man from Stratford has been pulled out from a river in the Olympic Park.

Two weeks ago, police issued an appeal for 19-year-old Hamid Sharifi, who was last seen on Tuesday 15 May, saying they were becoming “increasingly concerned” about his whereabouts.

At 4.45pm on Sunday 20 May, police were called to reports of a dead body in the River Lea, near Honour Lea Avenue.

Formal identification has confirmed that the body was that of Mr Hamid.

A police spokeswoman said: “The death is currently being treated as unexplained and at this time it is not thought to be suspicious.”

His next of kin have been informed.
