What are Britain’s ten biggest mosques?

In a revealing new report by the Ayaan Institute, Faizan-e-Madina emerges as the UK’s financial powerhouse among mosques with a staggering £17 million annual income, dwarfing smaller community mosques.

In this article we profile the top 10 mosques in the UK by three key metrics – annual income, total assets and number of people involved (trustees, staff and volunteers).

They are mostly well-known Islamic centres in major cities, often providing a wide array of services beyond daily prayers.

The next biggest mosque, after Faizan-e-Medina, is UKIM with £14 million.

Following this are Markazi Mosque in Dewsbury and KSIMC in London with £7 million and £6 million income respectively.

Next on the list are both East London Mosque and Green Lane Mosque which record an annual income of £5 million.

It is worth noting that these higher income generating mosques also carry out humanitarian aid and run large scale educational institutes which is reflected in their incomes and assets.

Outside of London many mosques still surpass the multi-million pound mark in annual funds. Each of these top mosques has a broad donor base and often runs fundraising campaigns nationally and internationally.

The financial gap between the top mosque and a mid-sized mosque is big. Many community mosques operate on under much less than £1 million a year. On the other hand smaller or isolated mosques raise less than £100 ,000.

All figures in this article com from the Ayaan Institute report which can be accessed here.
