At least 16,000 Israeli soldiers have been injured since the outbreak of the Gaza war, official figures show.
The Israeli Defence Ministry’s Rehabilitation Division said that it had received 16,000 soldiers since October 7, 2023.
Half of the soldiers received by the rehab centres suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, including 2,900 suffering both physical injuries and psychological distress, it added.
“One in every two soldiers treated by the Rehabilitation Department suffered from psychological distress,” the division said.
According to the same figures, the average annual treatment cost for an injured soldier is estimated at nearly 150,000 shekels ($41,000).
As of January 2, 2025, the IDF reported a total of 891 soldiers killed since October 7, 2023.
This figure encompasses 329 soldiers killed during the initial Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, along the Gaza border, and 405 soldiers killed during the subsequent ground offensive in Gaza.

The toll on the Israeli army reflects the scale of the military engagement, which has included a ground invasion of Gaza starting October 27, 2023, and later operations in Lebanon against Hezbollah, particularly intensifying in October 2024.
These figures are subject to military censorship and may not include all injuries or non-combat-related incidents, but they represent the most current official estimates as of March 27, 2025.
