A Muslim PhD student with physical disabilities needed hospitalization after an attack by Hindu nationalists, according to the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).
Farooque Alam is a PhD student at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The NSUI says he was attacked by members of the ABVP, the student wing of the Hindu nationalist RSS organisation.
Alam has previously spoken out against the RSS and the governing BJP party.
The ABVP has dismissed the allegations as fabricated and said its members were not involved.
