Empowering the future: Back to school

In the West we take the education of our children for granted but sadly that isn’t the case for millions of Muslim children around the world who haven’t got the basic equipment they need to learn. That’s why our charity partners, One Ummah, have launched a campaign to help get kids back to school.

As we approach the end of summer, children in many parts of the world are returning to school, equipped with new backpacks filled with new stationary and supplies. However, this is not the case for millions of children worldwide.

This simple joy afforded to most remains a dream for those less fortunate. Without access to education and schooling equipment, the harsh realities of their circumstances stand in the way of their hopes of a brighter future.

The impact of Covid-19 showed us a different reality – the absence of our children in schools. This has been the unforgiving norm for millions worldwide, long before the pandemic.

The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said: “The best gift a father can provide for their child is an education.” (Tirmidhi)

The Struggle for Education in Disaster-Stricken Nations

In poverty-stricken countries, children face huge challenges in accessing quality education. Limited resources, crumbling infrastructure, and the lack of basic amenities makes attending school impossible for many.

Among the countries One Ummah supports, Syria, Turkey, Palestine, and Yemen are just a few examples of countries dealing with the consequences of various calamities. Natural disasters, armed conflicts, and economic hardships have left countless families uprooted and struggling to survive. Education becomes an afterthought when basic necessities like food, water and medicine are in jeapordy.

Education is a powerful tool that can allow individuals to transform their lives. Sadly, more than 124 million children worldwide are deprived of this basic human right. For children who have lost their families, their future looks even worse. Without access to education and mentorship, their chances of breaking the cycle of poverty and rebuilding their lives remain impossible.

Charity does not decrease wealth, no one forgives another but that Allah increases his honour, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah but that Allah raises his status. (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

The Value of Education: A Ray of Hope

One Ummah’s back to school initiative strives to change this narrative by providing children with school packs equipped to help them excel academically whilst growing spiritually. By empowering these young minds with the gift of education, you become the beacon of hope they lost sight of. Every letter they learn, all the knowledge they acquire, and every positive change they make, you will be rewarded by Allah.

Education goes beyond classrooms and textbooks; it holds the key to unlocking potential and building a better world. These beloved children are the future. With the right help, they can rise above the struggle in their lives and shape a better path for themselves and their communities.

One Ummah is providing food, medicine, and education to people in over 18 crisis-hit Muslim nations, including Syria, Uganda, Yemen and Palestine. We have equipped underserved youths with essential school supplies such as stationary, backpacks, uniforms and learning materials. With your help, we aim to build on this and help more children in need than ever.

Donate now and be the inspiration for change, one school pack at a time, Insha’Allah.
