British Muslim Awards

The winners of the British Muslim Awards have been announced after a ceremony was held last week in Bradford.

The awards aim to recognise various achievements from the entire British Muslim community in all aspects of society including business, charity, sport, arts and culture.

The awards are run by Oceanic Consulting, an ethnic consulting and promotions organisation. Irfan Younis, CEO of Oceanic Consulting, said: “For a community that is often victim to misrepresentation, it is great to see the work that the finalists have been doing in various different sectors across the country showcased in a positive light and we hope to keep showcasing such committed and talented nominees in years to come.”

With 31 awards presented on the night, the winners are as follows:

Muslim in the Community went to Fozia Naseem (West Yorkshire)

Arts & Cultural Awareness went to National Portrait Gallery (London)

Religious Advocate of the Year went to Sheikha Selina Begum Ali (Beacon Institute, London)

Young Achiever of the Year went to Alayna Ahmed (Blackburn)

Charity of the Year went to Muslim Global Relief (London)

Noor Inayat Khan Muslim Woman of the Year Award went to Shifa Patel (Preston)

Rising Star in Media went to Sabbiyah Pervez (Yorkshire)

Services to Law went to Kamran Hussain (Leeds)

Services to Civil/Third Sector went to Noreen Bukhari (Coventry)

Services to Accounting went to Nadeem Ahmed (Leeds)

Businessman of the Year went to Bilal Ghafoor/Abdul Ghafoor Podha (Manchester)
