Celtic football fans raised banners criticising U.S. President Donald Trump following his recognition of Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.
The incident took place during a league match at Edinburgh’s Easter Road stadium against Hibernian on Sunday 10 December.
Celtic supporters displayed their disagreement with President Trump’s announcement by raising a banner which read, “Jerusalem is Palestine. F*ck Trump.”
In doing so, the fans have joined people around the world who are protesting the recent decision by President Trump to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem after he declared the city to be Israel’s capital last Wednesday.
Last year, fans flew the Palestinian flag at a Champions League match against an Israeli team, resulting in the club being penalised with a fine.
In response to the punishment meted out to the club, Celtic fans raised £98,500, which was enough to cover the fine and make donations to Palestinian refugees.
Palestinian refugees at a camp in Bethlehem decided to raise money to pay the fine imposed on Celtic FC in response to the solidarity shown by the fans.

President Trump’s controversial announcement, which Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has likened to “opening the gates of hell,” has since sparked a series of protests and flag-burning scenes across occupied Palestinian territories and the Muslim majority world.
While the international community has almost unanimously disagreed with President Trump’s announcement, reports suggest that the announcement was done with the pre-agreement of Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with the Saudi Arabia going as far as allegedly proposing to Abu Dis, a village on the outskirts of Jerusalem as the alternative capital city of a Palestinian state.
