Police launch murder investigation after Birmingham man killed

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally stabbed in Birmingham last night.

The Birmingham Mail reports that officers were called to the Washwood Heath area just before 10pm to reports that several men involved in a fight.

When emergency services arrived they found a man had suffered a suspected stab wound.

He was treated by paramedics but nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was named locally as Zakir Nawaz, aged 22.

The area has been cordoned off while detectives carry out a full investigation into what happened.

In the early hours of this morning a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is due to be questioned today.

Online tributes have been pouring in for Zakir Nawaz.

Former school friend Zahra Ibrahim said: “So saddened to hear about Zakir’s passing. One of the most loved guys from school. May Allah have mercy on his soul and grant him the highest rank in Jannah and may he give sabr to all his family and friends. You are all in my duas. Rest in peace brother.”

And Mohbeen Mohammed Umir said Zakir, who he said was also known as Rex, was much loved in the local community.

He said: “Sad to hear of the passing of Zakir (Rex) who was a good lad who was always smiling and made you laugh every time you met him and was doing well in life.

“Much loved in the local community. May Allah (swt) give his family sabr during this difficult time and may Allah (swt) grant him the highest rank in jannat al firdous.”
