MPACUK’s Raza Nadim kicked off Facebook after criticising Israel

Raza Nadim of MPACUK

MPACUK’s Raza Nadim has been kicked off Facebook for 24 hours after posting a status which criticised Israel.

Nadim’s status included a quote by Pink Floyd musician Roger Waters on Palestine which said: “This is an ancient, brilliant, artistic and very humane civilisation that is being destroyed in front of our eyes.”

The MPACUK spokesperson then added his own commentary: “This destruction is brought to you courtesy of the only ‘democracy’ in the Middle East. And if you speak up against the destruction, they’ll try and ruin you. The need for standing against this oppression is ever more urgent. #StandForJustice.”

Nadim then posted a link to the article in which Waters explains why fellow musicians are terrified to speak out against Israel.

He was subsequently informed by Facebook that his post had been removed because it didn’t follow the “Facebook Community Standards” and that he would be banned from posting on his page for 24 hours.

Speaking to 5Pillars, Nadim said: “I am outraged that once again we see Facebook silencing pro-Palestinian voices and Muslim activists. There is nothing about that quote in the post or the post itself that could possibly violate any of Facebook so-called ‘Community Standards.’ We have seen extremely racist, grotesque and Islamophobic things on Facebook that are never taken down, even after public pressure, but anything that is remotely critical of Israel is clamped down on.

“I have been targeted in the past by Zionists, as have others, but I have had enough. The MPACUK team will be organising a campaign about this and would urge others who have similar run ins with Facebook to get in touch with us.”

5Pillars has contacted Facebook about the incident and is awaiting a reply.
