Man charged with the murder of his 79-year-old father in Bethnal Green

The house at the end of Huddleston Close

A man has been charged with the murder of his 79-year-old father at his home in Bethnal Green and the attempted murder of two children, including a toddler.

Suluk Ahmed, 31, is accused of carrying out the stabbing incident in Huddleston Close on Sunday evening.
Ahmed, who appears in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court today, was charged by detectives after being treated in hospital for injuries.
Three children were brought out of the house at the end of the cul-de-sac on Sunday evening, a two-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl found with stab injuries and a 13-year-old boy found with minor injuries.
Detectives investigating the incident launched a fresh appeal yesterday for information.
“We will be conducting house-to-house enquires,” Det Insp Jason Prendergast said.
“We are appealing to anyone who may know anything about this incident to come forward and tell us what they know. Any information could be vital.”
Ahmed’s father was taken in a wheelchair to a waiting ambulance, but died three hours later in hospital.
A fleet of seven ambulances and a dozen police cars had converged on the quiet Huddleston Close off Parmiter Street, near Victoria Park.
The cul-de-sac, built in 1993 as a community for large families, was named after the late Bishop of Stepney Trevor Huddleston, a formidable campaigner against South African apartheid in the 1960s.
Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

But they urge anyone with any information to contact the incident room on 020-8345 3865, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
