Bedford woman bailed after Syria-related terror arrest

SEARCH OPERATION: Granville Street, Kempston (Photo Bedfordshire on Sunday)

A Bedford woman suspected of wanting to travel to Syria to join jihadists has been released on bail.

The woman was detained in Bedfordshire on Wednesday by officers from Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts.

The arrest came on the same day that officers launched a search operation on a house in Granville Street, Bedford.

Scotland Yard said she was bailed to return on a date in early February.

It is understood the woman was allegedly planning to head to the war-torn country.

Two addresses in Bedfordshire were searched as part of the investigation.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police said the force has no knowledge of the operation and is not involved.
