VIDEO: Woman chases man who punched her husband on a train

Video footage has emerged of a brave wife who chased a thug who punched her Muslim husband on a train.

Spanish Kilian Ahmed, 35, screamed at the man when he suddenly struck her husband Jubair Ahmed in the face.

She chased the man who jumped off the District Line train as it stopped at Upton Park station, east London.

Footage of the attack and the subsequent chase filmed by a fellow passenger was investigated by British Transport Police who confirmed a 33-year-old man has been arrested.

Finance student Mr Ahmed, 31, told London Evening Standard he was struggling to eat following the alleged assault at 3.40pm on Monday.

The couple were travelling to Whitechapel from their home in Barking when the man leaned over them and launched into a “torrent of expletives”.

He said: “When we boarded and sat down he was shouting and swearing, I didn’t look at him because I knew maybe it was dangerous.

The camera phone footage shows Kilian leap from her seat and chase down the platform after the man, yelling in Spanish.

Mr Ahmed, who moved to London from Bangladesh in 2011, said: “I’m finding it difficult to eat because of my jaw.”

He revealed it was the second time since he had moved to the UK that he had been the victim of alleged hate crime – a problem he believes has worsened since Britain’s vote to leave the European Union in June.

He said: “I see news reading the Evening Standard, I see cases like this and I think its increased. I don’t know why this man talked to me, for what reason.”

Now, he said, he was just trying to move on from what happened.

He added: “I want justice, any punishment and I’m happy.”

A British Transport Police spokesman said a 33-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and using threatening and abusive words and behaviour. He has been bailed until November 14.

Witnesses are ask to contact the British Transport Police on 0800 405040 quoting reference number 554.
