Muslim Brotherhood supporters chased a guest speaker away from a lecture at a London university last month as he delivered a talk on the socio-political dilemmas faced by Egypt.
The lecturer Mohamed El-Nabawy, who is thought to have close tries to Egypt’s Tamorrod movement which ousted Muslim Brotherhood president Mohammed Morsi, was forced off the stage by the protesters, who waved Muslim Brotherhood flags and started chanting slogans at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
The event was held in October.
A spokesman for the university’s Palestinian Society, which organised the event, said: “While we fully respect, and understand, the highly-charged context of any discussion on contemporary Egyptian politics, we believe that the disruptions pre-empted any possibility of fruitful exchange.
“We apologise to our guests for any distress these events may have caused, and thank the SOAS staff for their cooperation and support.”
