Ex British soldier Benjamin Griffin: “We will not fight for Queen & Country”

Former SAS soldier, Benjamin Griffin of Veterans for Peace presents his argument at the Oxford Union debate for why he refuses to fight for “Queen & Country”.

The ex-British soldier criticises the “rancid religion of patriotism”, and blames politicians, army generals, the media and the arms industry who really benefit from wars – legal or illegal.

Benjamin Griffin also describes the destruction and mayhem caused by occupation, and those orchestrating it via policy that never actually participate in combat.

He briefly touches upon the illegality of Afghanistan, Iraq and Britain’s hypocritical position during the Arab Spring, for backing the Libyan rebels whilst turning a blind eye to Saudi Arabia’s aggression to peaceful protestors in Bahrain (weapons that were also sold by the UK to Saudi and Bahrain).
