BBC Radio 4 debate: Should mosques and madrassas be registered and monitored?

Muhammad Jaydin from “Keep Mosques Independent” and Irfan Chishti from the Rochdale Council of Mosques discuss the UK Government’s new proposals to register, monitor and sanction madrassas on BBC Radio 4’s Sunday programme.

Mr Jaydin explainedthat  the proposals were unnecessary, and rather it was the government’s attempts to impose its “muscular liberal” values on mosques.

Irfan Chishti agreed in support of the government’s registration of mosques – opposing the majority opinion of mosques and madrassas in the north of the country – including the mosques he represents, who have signed a statement rejecting the registration of mosques and madrassas.
