Malala Yousafzai’s recent appearance at the UN Youth Assembly was an indirect ploy by western powers to further their agenda in the Muslim world whilst intentionally ignoring the real issue of foreign policy, writes Anila Malik.
Malala Yousafzai was recently given a standing ovation when she addressed the UN Youth Assembly and called for reforms in global education. The following lines were splashed across western mainstream media:
“Let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world. Education is the only solution.”
Whilst I believe that our sister’s sincerity should not be questioned, I would like to pose the question – who do you turn to for help? Whose pens, teachers, books and curriculum do you ask for?
Many of the countries that Malala addressed and pleaded to are responsible for robbing Muslim women of a right that is guaranteed by the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). It is historically documented that women under numerous Islamic empires and states had their educational rights delivered and protected for centuries, many of whom who later became great scholars and teachers of men.
The question I pose or the reality I am highlighting is that – was it not these very neo-colonial powers that Malala stood before, responsible for plotting against the revival of the same Islamic system that had historically protected women’s rights? A system which was set out by Muhammad (saw), followed by his Companions (ra) which delivered a shade of rights, prosperity and security for all women.
Countries like Britain, the US and France made up your audience but at the same time they are responsible for culturally and militarily invading our lands with their books, pens, teachers and bombs. Surely our sister Malala can understand that these very tools will be used to secularise and westernise our future generations?

Was it not the crowd who praised Malala with a standing ovation, responsible for occupation, devastation and poverty within Afghanistan and Iraq where education has now become a rare luxury and instead finding food for children to keep them alive has now become the daily struggle?
The Western powers that our sister Malala placed her plea bargain with are responsible for taking our Muslim countries back to the days of jahiliyyah, establishing secular-based systems through the puppet dictators they have installed, Egypt being a recent example.
Our despot rulers along with their colonial masters have no sincere regard for establishing Muslim women’s rights, their primary objective is only to distance us from Islam through funding, western education systems and of course a smile.
Just in case our sister Malala was not aware of certain facts and realities, I thought it’d be important to remind her and others of some numbers from their own reports. According to the UN’s report on “Children and Conflict” 115 schools in Mali were attacked in the last year; 321 in the occupied Palestinian territories, 167 in Afghanistan and 165 in Yemen as a result of “external” military intervention, hopefully she won’t need three guesses to work out who those “external” powers were.
I will conclude by delivering this message to sister Malala – do not be fooled by the standing applause they mesmerised you with, the reality is they only wish to use you as a pawn to further their agenda in the Muslim world and to extinguish Allah’s light and to create the opinion that Islam robbed you and millions of other sisters of their rights.
They want to use you to pave the way for the secular and liberal powers to go in and do what they do best, colonise the minds of the women, through their western educational curriculums.
