A gunman was shot dead by police outside a mosque in Florida yesterday afternoon.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot outside the Masjid Al-Iman near Fort Lauderdale.
Officials from the U.S. Marshals said the South Florida Regional Task Force was in the neighbourhood carrying out surveillance on the suspect after receiving information on him from Osceola County in central Florida.
They located to the parking lot and when they moved in to detain him, he came out of his vehicle armed with a gun, officials said.
One of the task force members shot the suspect dead and no other injuries were reported.
Footage showed Broward Sheriff’s Office officials at the scene of the incident and the suspect’s body in between vehicles in a nearby parking lot.
The task force comprises officers from Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, Miramar and BSO police departments.

Officials didn’t say which agency’s officer killed the gunman.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office later identified the suspect as Hamid Ould-Rouis, 58.
According to local news reports, Ould-Rouis was wanted in an attack on a woman and a man at a home in Kissimmee that happened on Thursday 23 May.
The woman, who was attacked with a knife, was left critically injured in the incident, the reports mentioned.
No other information about the attack or suspect has been released.
