Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be indicted in three corruption cases on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit declared on Thursday his intention to indict Netanyahu pending a pre-trial hearing.
The announcement came after more than two years of investigations and deliberations.
Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, also appeared in court last year in a fraud trial, in which she is alleged to have misused state funds in ordering catered meals.
The Israeli prime minister, for his part, is charged of accepting gifts from wealthy businessmen and dispensing favours to try to get more positive press coverage.
Shortly following the the attorney general’s announcement, Netanyahu denied the claims, claiming he was “the most vilified person in the history of Israeli media”.
Netanyahu, who has been in office for 13 years, is running for a fourth consecutive term.

However, the indictment could be an end to his political career as it came only 40 days before Israel general elections.
