A man has been jailed for a “despicable campaign” to frame his brother-in-law as an ISIS supporter and a paedophile after his marriage broke down.
Shohidul Islam, 26, launched a “vicious digital and online campaign” against Mohammed Razaul Karim after becoming bitter over the breakup of his marriage to the victim’s sister.
The court heard how he targeted his wife’s brother after “falling to pieces” because he was unable to earn enough money to bring her and their son from Bangladesh to the UK.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) slammed Mr Islam for creating fake social media accounts under Mr Karim’s name and writing messages in support of ISIS.
His hate campaign even saw him fabricate a hoax bomb threat at a primary school, as well as framing his brother-in-law as a paedophile.
Mr Islam originally denied the charges but changed his plea to guilty on the fourth day of his trial at the Old Bailey, admitting two counts of reckless encouragement of terrorism, possession of material useful to a terrorist, making a bomb hoax and making indecent images.
He was sentenced to five years and eight months in jail on Friday 27 October.

Mr Islam was also handed a restraining order against further contact with Mr Karim and his family.
Judge Rebecca Poulet QC said: “Mercifully, it is certainly unusual conduct.”
She said Karim, the target of the “wicked campaign”, was completely innocent but could have faced “dire consequences” had he come to the attention of authorities.
