A group of Muslim men from Birmingham have started to clean up their local area by picking up piles of black refuse bags due to an ongoing bin strike.
The “Bearded Broz” took a big truck out for a huge clean up after they were frustrated with the condition of their local streets after five weeks of a bin strike in Birmingham.
On Saturday alone they covered six streets in Small Heath, with more streets covered in Sunday.
They have issued an appeal for a bigger truck or skip to cover more areas.
Spokesman for Bearded Broz, Naveed Sadiq, said the group took four truck loads of rubbish to the Tyseley tip during the weekend clean up.
He told the Birmingham Mail: “The rubbish has been piled up like pyramids on the road and we’re not happy with the response of our councillors. We could not leave it, with the stench if this strike is going to go on. So we decided to do something ourselves.”
More than 12 men took participated in the tidy up.

Naveed added: “The response has been overwhelming, we are now getting requests from other streets and neighbourhoods.”
In a message to the council, the group said they have sufficient number of volunteers ready and all they require is a truck or skip and access to the tip.
Birmingham City Council is currently operating on a ward by ward collection of the backlog of rubbish built up since the strike began on Friday 30 June.
The council have stated that they may not reach all of Birmingham’s 40 wards until the end of this week, and that talks to end the strike are still ongoing.
