Bedfordshire Police have confirmed that there has been a spike in hate crimes following last Saturday’s attack in London Bridge, including one incident where a man was assaulted and called a “terrorist”.
Sources told 5Pillars that the victim was a Muslim, who was taken to hospital after the incident in Luton, after he was attacked by a group of white men on Saturday night.
The police want to talk to anyone who may have seen what happened and are have not made any arrests yet.
A member of staff from a takeaway and a shopkeeper were also racially abused in separate incidents within Bedfordshire, which has led to police reaching out to people to come together instead of taking their anger out on innocent people.
Sergeant James Hart from Bedfordshire Police said: “Sadly we are aware that following incidents such as the tragic attack in London there can be an increase in hate crime within our communities.
“On Saturday night a man was knocked unconscious and called a terrorist in what we believe is a hate crime attack motivated by the incident in London. This was a completely unprovoked and senseless attack and we are working hard to find those responsible.
“No one should have to suffer from either physical or verbal abuse as a result of who they are and we will not tolerate hate crime in any shape or form.
