A man has been arrested after a woman lost her baby in an allegedly racist attack.
According to the Evening Standard, police said a 37-year-old from Milton Keynes was taken into custody on suspicion of racially aggravated assault on Wednesday morning.
The victim, 34, who is said to have been of Middle Eastern appearance and wearing a headscarf , was shopping in a Co-op near Milton Keynes when a man allegedly launched a tirade of racist abuse at her.
He is then said to have followed her to her car before kicking her hard in the stomach. She collapsed in agony and had to be rushed to hospital, where she was told her baby could not be saved.
A 40-year-old man also allegedly had a bottle and a bag of ice smashed against his head when he tried to intervene.
Both victims were taken to Milton Keynes General Hospital. They have both since been discharged.
Police had released a CCTV image of a man they wished to question in connection with the attack shortly after 9.30pm on August 6 in Water Eaton Road, Bletchley.

Commenting on the incident, Harun Khan, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: “As a father of three young daughters, I am completely shocked and saddened to hear of such a horrific and cowardly attack on a vulnerable woman in our society today . My thoughts and prayers are with both the victims, especially for the lady who has now just lost a child as a result of hatred and xenophobia.”
“We need strong action now from the authorities to show that they are taking all hate crimes seriously, including Islamophobia, which findings show has increased in recent times, especially post Brexit”.
