The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has condemned the Orlando shooting yesterday during which a man with a Muslim name killed 50 people in a gay nightclub.
Omar Mateen wounded 53 more in the deadliest mass shooting in recent US history, before being shot dead by police. ISIS called Mateen “one of its soldiers.”
CAIR said the incident was a hate crime and said it violates “our principles as Americans and Muslims.”
The organisation added that there could be no tolerance for hateful rhetoric that encourages violence against minorities and that today the Muslim community stands “shoulder to shoulder” with the LGBT community.
