A Muslim hero responded to a pensioner’s cries for help by chasing after a burglar and sitting on him until the police arrived.
Saif Uddin, 20, and his brother, Sharif, came to the rescue when they heard the elderly man calling for help as they walked down Eileen Grove, in Rusholme.
The pair came to the 72-year-old victim’s aid and Saif raced after the burglar running after him on foot for several minutes.
The student eventually caught the suspected thief as he tried to scale a garden wall, and tackled him to the ground.
Two off-duty security guards heard the commotion and also rushed over to help.
Religion and theology student Saif, who is currently studying at the University of Manchester, said he felt compelled to act when he heard the pensioner’s call for help.
He told Manchester Evening News said: “The burglar was inside the house with a bag. The victim came out and said ‘he has robbed everything I have got’.

“I grabbed him and held him and said ‘you’re not going to escape’.
“I dragged him back and he was getting aggressive, so I threw him to the floor and put my weight on him.
“Two security guards from Platt Fields fair came and handcuffed him and we waited for the police.”
Saif and Sharif, 25, were walking to their sister’s house when they saw the suspected burglar in the house on Eileen Grove at around 3.30pm on the afternoon of Sunday 10 April.
Saif said: “I don’t know what was going through my mind but there was something in my heart telling me to go after him no matter what.
“I just thought of my newborn niece and thought it could be my family targeted.
“The old man was shaking. I felt so bad for him. He has got a badly bruised hand and his debit and credit cards were stolen.
“I can’t believe he stole from an old man. I find it quite distressing.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said a 42-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
They added: “A man had been apprehended by the time officers arrived and was arrested at the scene.
“A mobile phone, bag, radio, wallet and some cash was taken in the incident but all items were recovered.”
To protect your home from unwanted intruders, you could invest in better security or implement higher quality, anti-pick locks. Someone like a roswell local locksmith could install these things for you.
If you find yourself charged in a burglary case, it might be a good idea to get in touch with an attorney.
