Hate crimes against Muslims in London have tripled in the wake of the Paris attacks, according to new figures by the Metropolitan police.
On November 10, three days before the Paris attacks, 24 hate crimes were reported to police from the previous week. By contrast, 76 were recorded in the week ending November 24.
The Met Police also stated that incidents of Islamophobia had increased dramatically between October 2014 and October 2015 – rising by 41.8 percent. It said the rise is regrettable but to be expected during “difficult times.”
The statistics also indicate spikes in attacks in the wake of global events, such as the Charlie Hebdo massacre in January.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn has joined a vigil outside Finsbury Park mosque after an attempted arson attack last month.
The Labour leader said: “This attack is designed to divide our community between one and another – one ethnic group and another – it has failed, it will fail, it will always fail because we are very proud of our multi-cultural community here in Finsbury Park.”
Police are still searching for a man over the attempted arson attack on November 29.
