The latest fatwa authored by Dr Usama Hasan on ISIS can be applied to his own organisation, the Quilliam Foundation, writes blogger Tipu Sultan.
Usama Hasan has taken the unthinkable step in declaring the Quilliam Foundation a heresy. However, before considering that issue, it should be noted that Usama has also declared a fatwa (a religious edict) against ISIS.
On this issue, it should be made clear first and foremost given that some newspapers are referring to Usama Hasan as a “Shaykh”, that the only thing that Usama comes close to with respect to that prestigious title is a “Milk Shake”, and a banana one at that.
Secondly, it has been reported by certain papers that Usama is an “Imam”. However, he holds no such post, in fact, reports from the mosque where he is now banned show that people would not pray in the mosque even if he were elected by his family (mosque committee) to lead the prayer.
The point being, he has absolutely no credibility within the Muslim community and neither do the other government stooges who signed this “fatwa”, which is as valid as Tony Blair issuing one.
Moreover, Usama’s “fatwa” can easily be applied on him and his group of government informants, the Quilliam Foundation. Here’s how…
Point 1 of Usama’s Fatwa:

“There is no doubt Assad’s regime in Syria is oppressive, unjust and brutal and has committed numerous atrocities against its people”
How this applies to the QF:
“There is no doubt that the Quilliam Foundation in the UK is oppressive, unjust and brutal and has committed numerous atrocities against its people.”
“The same is true of the so-called “Islamic State” (IS) or self-styled “Caliphate,” formerly known as “The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria”: it is an oppressive and tyrannical group”
How this applies to QF:
“The same is true of the Quilliam Foundation and its self-appointed “sheikhs” – it is an oppressive, tyrannical group towards the Muslim community that has tried to undermine Islamic theology, seeking to create confusion, suspicion and mischief for the sake of lining their pockets by demonising the Muslim community, and creating a fear of “extremism” which sanctions legitimate Islamic views for the purposes of government funding and BBC television appearances.
Furthermore, Usama chooses to selectively quote Quranic verses whilst ignoring his obligations in relation to other verses such as the “do not spy” [Quran 49:12] or Prophetic statements such as the injunction that a “Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor.”
Point 3 of Usama’s Fatwa:
“By murdering prisoners of war, journalists and civilians, including mosque imams who refused to endorse their campaign, ISIS have violated international agreements. God says “believers fulfil your covenants”.
How this applies to QF:
“Usama and the Quilliam Foundation have targeted mosques and Imams up and down the country branding them as hate preachers in line with neoconservative aims.
They actively encourage the PREVENT strategy, which discriminates against Muslims and violates human rights. Not only is the covenant towards the country being broken by actively destroying community cohesion and opposing “British values”, it is clear that Usama and the QF are far from fulfilling their covenant to God, though they are meticulously fulfilling their covenant to David Cameron.
Point 5 of Usama’s Fatwa:
“Based on all the above, ISIS are an heretical and extremist organisation and it is prohibited to support or join them.
How this applies to QF:
“Based on all the above, the Quilliam Foundation are a heretical and extremist organisation and it is prohibited to support and join them. It is also strongly advised for non-Muslims not to support or join them as they are responsible for increasing “extremism” and “radicalisation”, rather than subduing and countering it.”
Point 6 of Usama’s Fatwa:
“British and other EU citizens are bound by their duties to their home countries according to Islamic theology and jurisprudence: it is therefore prohibited (haram) to travel to fight with any side in Syria, including non-state actors, since this is forbidden by laws in EU countries.”
How this applies to QF:
British citizens are bound to their duties to their home countries which includes fighting against injustices such as PREVENT, maintaining peace and community cohesion in society. It is against Islamic theology and jurisprudence to assist in deviation and its spread, and aligning oneself with those who seek to undermine Islam and law-abiding Muslims, increasing in their oppression and difficulty. Therefore it is advised to distance oneself and isolate people like Usama and the Quilliam Foundation from the Muslim community in order assist in the restoration of cohesion.
Point 7 of Usama’s Fatwa:
It is a moral obligation upon British Muslims to help the Syrian and Iraqi people without betraying their own societies: “If they ask for your help in religion, you must help, except against a people with whom you have a treaty.” (Qur’an 8:72)
How this applies to QF:
It is a moral obligation upon British Muslims to help all Muslims in the UK and globally, by exposing these organisations as they are actively destroying community cohesion and betraying their own societies: “If they ask for your help in religion, you must help, except against a people with whom you have a treaty.”
In conclusion:
Usama’s fatwa is taken as seriously in the Muslim community as Richard Dawkins’ edict on a matter pertaining to Christianity – a non-starter.
To be fair Usama, today you have raised the intellectual – you managed to get all your friends under your name in that famous broadsh*t paper, which is renowned for its third page – The Sun.
