Two American YouTube celebrities were escorted by the police after they brought Marble Arch to standstill yesterday with a frenzied rendezvous with fans.
Adam Saleh and Sheikh Akbar, also known as TruestoryASA, were stampeded by hundreds of screaming fans after the pair had spent the last few weeks inviting their followers down to one corner of Hyde Park at 3pm yesterday.
The boys, whose most popular video “Ferrari pick up prank” has almost 11 million views, had to be moved from the area by police after the situation became too chaotic.
Mr Saleh had tweeted a picture of himself in the back of a police car with the caption “London police arrested me! You guys are crazy! Please be safe! :(,” however officers say he had just been taken away for his own safety.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 15:50hrs today to Marble Arch following reports of a large gathering of people after an event was advertised on social media.
“Officers attended and found a 21-year-old man unable to leave the Palazzo area. He was escorted safely away by police and taken to a central London police station where he was offered advice regarding organising large-scale events. He was not arrested.”
Pictures on social media show a crowd on the western end of Oxford Street, holding up traffic, with people on the top deck of tour buses peering over the edge to see the commotion.
