Niqabi author hits back at anti-burqa UK MPs

WATCH: Niqab-wearing Muslim author Na’ima B Robert responds to the British MPs who have engaged in verbal attacks against the Islamic face veil amid calls for a UK burqa ban.

Speaking to 5Pillars, sister Na’ima, who has authored multiple books including “From my sisters’ lips” which challenges Western preconceptions about Muslim women, explains why so many Muslim women choose to adopt the niqab and why a ban is harmful.

She urges anti-burqa MPs, like Kemi Badenoch and Sarah Pochin, to listen, learn and try interacting with Muslim women before spreading misconceptions about the niqab.

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has said she will not speak to women wearing burqas in her constituency surgery, and argued that employers should be able to ban their staff from wearing face coverings.

While Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin triggered a debate over the subject by pressing Keir Starmer on whether he would follow the lead of other European countries such as France in banning the burqa.
