Last night a group of Muslims attended an iftar at Downing Street with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

One of the attendees, imam Adam Kelwick, posted pictures of the event saying he led prayers and went there with the intention of raising awareness of the plight of the people of Gaza and their continued suffering.

Starmer and his Labour Party have been the subject of heavy criticism from the British Muslim community because of their staunch support for Israel during the Gaza genocide.

But Kelwick said Starmer recognised the suffering of Palestinians and the pain people in the UK feel for them.

Kelwick added that the Prime Minister served Muslims present there, by hand, giving them dates to break their fasts with.

On his own social media, Starmer said: “Tonight, we have welcomed some of our country’s most inspiring young British Muslims to a Ramadan Iftar. It was an honour to join you as you broke your fast.”
