Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro has praised the hit Turkish drama series Dirilis Ertugrul at a recent press conference with Turkish diplomats.
The Venezuelan president is an avid fan of the show which has been dubbed the “Muslim Game of Thrones” by The Metro.
Dirilis Ertugrul tells the story of Ghazi Ertugrul – the father of Osman I, who founded the Ottoman Empire and lived around 800 years ago – as he struggles to find a permanent homeland for his tribe, the Kayi, while fighting the Crusaders, the Byzantines, the Mongols and internal spies.
The show’s producer and director, Mehmet Bozdag, praised President Maduro on his official Facebook page for commending the show.
Deputy editor of 5Pillars met with the show’s Corporate Communications Director, Huseyin Ozcelikk, at their Istanbul office in March, and is due to interview Mr Bozdag and cast members next month.
