Metal bars and bats used in vicious Birmingham street brawl

A mass street brawl involving bats and metal bars took place in Alum Rock, Birmingham, on Thursday evening.

Footage emerged showing a man lying injured following a huge fight outside the Afghani Darbar Restaurant, on the junction of Alum Rock Road and St Joseph’s Road, Ward End, around 8.45pm.

Two men were injured and paramedics later took one man in his 20s to hospital for further treatment.

Earlier a dozen men can be seen beating a man with huge wooden bats and metal bars. Armed men are also seen ambushing a Mercedes C Class, with one man even repeatedly jumping on the bonnet.

Police said: “Police are investigating a disorder where wooden bats and metal bars were brandished in St Josephs Road, Ward End, at around 8.45pm last night (Thursday 10 May).

“A 23-year-old man has been taken to hospital with head, leg and arm injuries which are not life-threatening; while another man, aged 29, suffered an arm injury.

“A car was also damaged as a group of men involved in the disorder are believed to have fled in a number of other vehicles.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of an assault on Alum Rock Road at 8.45pm last night. An ambulance and a paramedic officer attended.

“A man in his 20s received trauma care on scene after suffering a number of injuries. He was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to hospital for further care.”
