The deputy leader of Britain First, Jayda Fransen, has begged US President Donald Trump to intervene in her religious harassment court case.
Ms Fransen, who is currently on bail on four counts of religiously aggravated harassment, released a video in which she praises the president for being a “leader of the free world.”
In a video posted online, the 31-year-old praised Trump for retweeting inflammatory videos from her account.
She said: “On behalf of myself and every citizen of Britain and for every man and women who has fought and died for us to have freedom of speech, I am appealing to you for your help. I’m appealing for your intervention before I am thrown in jail.”
The far-right extremist has been charged by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) with using “threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour,” over speeches she made in Belfast at a “Northern Ireland Against Terrorism” rally in August. She is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on December 14.
Ms Fransen said Mr Trump had shed light on her ”plight here in Britain, in that I am facing prison for giving a speech in which I criticised Islam.”
Mr Trump’s decision to share the tweets was widely criticised.

Theresa May‘s spokesman said Britain First used “hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions,” while Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn called the retweets “abhorrent” and “dangerous.”
Trump responded with a tweet to Mrs May, which read: “Don’t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!”
