Naz Shah: I believe in Israel’s right to exist

Naz Shah, who is standing for re-election in the Bradford West constituency, told a hustings last night that she believes in Israel’s “right to exist.”

“Do I believe in Israel’s right to exist? I continue to stand by my statement that I believe in Israel’s right to exist,” she told the audience.

Following her statement it is alleged that an audience member shouted “Jew, Jew, Jew.”

Shah has made repeated pro Israeli statements since she was vilified by the mainstream media and the pro Israeli lobby after posting controversial anti Israel statements on Facebook which were deemed by some to be anti Semitic.

But her remarks will prove controversial given the large, pro Palestinian population in her constituency.

Speaking after Shah, the independent candidate Salma Yaqoob emphasised her pro Palestinian credentials and spoke in favour of anti Israel boycotts.
