Heroic Muslim bus driver stopped female motorist from being carjacked

A heroic Muslim bus driver from Birmingham stopped a woman motorist from being carjacked.

Muhammad Shahid Mahmood got out of his bus and rescued the woman who was being attacked in Hall Green, Birmingham.

His bravery has been rewarded by being nominated for an award.

Mr Mahmood was driving the National Express Number 5 bus travelling between Birmingham and Solihull last September when the incident occurred.

The bus was in Robin Hood Lane when he witnessed a man attacking a female driver and trying to take her mobile phone.

After safely parking his bus, Mr Mahmood got out and shouted at the attacker telling him to stop, and the perpetrator ran away.

Along with a few of his passengers, the heroic bus driver went to make sure the victim was okay and called the police.

His chivalrous actions has resulted in being nominated for National Express’s “Group Values Award”.

He was put forward by his colleagues at the Acocks Green garage.

 

Mr Mahmood has been driving busses from the Acocks Green depot since 2008.

He has previously won a National Express Bus Safety award for his actions, but now he’s been nominated for the international version where he’ll be up against colleagues from Germany, Bahrain, America and across Britain.

The awards ceremony will take place in London on Thursday 27 April.
