Bedfordshire Police have launched a murder investigation after a mother was killed at her home as she looked after her four children – while the rest of her family was attending a late night funeral.
It’s believed Saima Khan, 34, may have disturbed a burglar who broke into the family’s home in Overstone Road in Luton.
She is said to have been stabbed in the neck and was found in a pool of blood after the attack.
Zaheer Asghar wrote on Facebook: “Last night a sister’s house was burgled. The burglars attempted to steal gold.
“The sister, whose name was Saima Khan, confronted them but was hit over the head with a mirror from her hallway.
“Her jugular vein was cut and she sadly passed away.”
The victim is thought to have been looking after her young children at the home in Luton as other family members were said to have been attending a funeral at a mosque nearby.

Neighbour Nousheen Dar told Luton Today: “I did see that she was on the floor in the doorway and there was a lot of blood around her.
“It was horrible and I don’t know why it has happened. It seems so random. At the time everyone was just in shock.”
Bedfordshire Police have now launched a murder investigation after the victim was found at the home in Overstone Road on Monday night.
Detective Chief Inspector Adam Gallop, senior investigating officer, said: “We are treating the woman’s death as murder and it’s therefore of the utmost importance that anyone with information that could help our investigation gets in touch immediately.
“We are following a number of lines of inquiry and are keeping an open mind as to what led to this tragic incident.”
Neighbours were alerted to the tragedy by Saima’s family when they returned from the funeral to be confronted by a scene of horror.
