Man charged for threatening to burn “ISIS flag” at Livingston mosque

A man has been charged with threatening to burn the flag commonly associated with ISIS in front of worshippers at a mosque.

Kenneth Meek, 54, is said to have made the threat during an alleged Facebook rant posted on his page last year.

Meek, from Livingston, is also alleged to have encouraged online friends to film themselves burning similar flags and to upload the images onto social media sites.

The 54-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court where he denied the allegations against him.

Charges state Meek posted offensive and alarming messages onto his Facebook page stating he would turn up at a mosque in Livingston and burn the flag which has Muslim testimony of faith on it during jummah prayers.

He is also said to have claimed he would arrive at the mosque while armed, while also mentioning the far right organisation the English Defence League during the online posts to the fear and alarm of those reading the text.

Meek is due to return to stand trial later this month.
