YouTube videos of Muslim “Shariah police” patrolling the streets of Wuppertal in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in West Germany, sparked outrage among politicians in Europe.
Wuppertal has a population of approximately 350,000 people, and authorities believe around 1,800 Muslims adhere to the Salafist brand of Islam, who are thought to be organising the patrols.
Dilly Hussain provides context to these Muslim patrols by drawing comparisons and differences to ones that have taken place in the UK, and the selective media coverage it received.
